Paris, France

Paris is one of our favorite cities.  We have visited this city more than any other international destination.  There is so much to do here and so much to experience. We plan to go back many more times.  In the sections below we highlight some of our helpful tips along with our favorite things to do and places to eat.

Paris, France - Quick Tip

- Transportation - Navigo Pass Week Pass - The Metro in Paris is the most cost effective and efficient way to get around.  We strongly recommend the Paris Navigo Pass (week). This includes all 5 Zones (All of Paris and surrounding areas - Versailles and Disneyland)  This pass is good from Monday through Sunday.

- Paris Museum Pass - The Paris Museum Pass is an excellent way to see the Culture in Paris and the surrounding areas.  The pass gives you priority entrance to the museums listed. You can purchase a 2, 4, or 6 day pass.  You can buy the pass at the airport when you arrive or at many locations throughout the city.  This pass will save you money and time and help you prioritize your agenda.

The Eiffel Tower is one of the most iconic structures in the World. It was built as the entrance to the 1889 World's Fair. It is a breathtaking masterpiece. Be sure to buy tickets well in advance.

The Arc De Triomphe offers amazing views of Paris from the top. The Arc De Triomphe honors those who died in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. It is the site of the Tomb of the Unknown Solider. This attraction is included in the Paris Museum Pass.

Sacre-Coeur is a beautiful Catholic cathedral which sits at the highest point in Paris.  It was built between 1875-1914. This is the 2nd most visited monument in Paris.  There is no fee to visit here.

The Hôtel de la Marine in Paris is a historic building on Place de la Concorde, once housing the royal furniture collection and later the French Navy. Now a museum, it offers stunning restored apartments and grand salons to explore.

Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles was the residence of the French Royals from 1682-1789. The apartments, gardens, and canals are breathtaking. This attraction is located 12 miles southwest of Paris but is easily accessible by train. This attraction is included in the Paris Museum Pass.

Palace of Fontainebleau

The Palace of Fontainebleau was a residence of the French Royals from Louis VII to Napoleon III. This Palace includes numerous magnificent rooms and gardens. This palace is located 34 miles southeast of Paris and is easily accessible by train.  This attraction is included in the Paris Museum Pass.

Basilica of Saint-Denis

Located in a Northern Suburb of Paris this large Medieval Church is the burial site of the French Kings from the 10th to the 18th Century. This building contains stain glass masterpieces throughout.  Marie Antoinette is buried here. This attraction is included in the Paris Museum Pass.

Mont-Saint-Michel

 Mont Saint-Michel is a tidal island in Normandy, France, topped by a magnificent abbey.  For centuries it was a major pilgrimage site, and today it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Visitors can explore the historic abbey and wander the charming streets within the village walls.

 Château de Chantilly is a historic French castle just north of Paris. It boasts two parts: a smaller 16th-century structure and a grander 19th-century addition. The château houses the Musée Condé, which holds one of France's most impressive collections of paintings and manuscripts.

Holybelly has multiple locations in Paris.  They serve the best pancakes we have ever tasted.  The other offerings were excellent as well. We visited the Holybelly 5 which is located near Gare du Nord.

Le Progres was a great place to eat dinner. We ate the burgundy style beef and stuffed cabbage. This restaurant is located close to Sacre Coeur.

Cafe Constant is located very close to the Eiffel Tower. We ate the beef cheeks with carrots and the parisian style onion soup & pumpkin cream soup.  The quality and service were both excellent.
